Funny how things can be different on both sides of the pond. Public sector jobs over here tend to be sought after for stability and pay.

Anyway, exciting weeks ahead for you and your family. Will you need to do house-shopping, or is that settled already?

Here - definitely for stability - but this is an aberation with Illinois' financial situation right now. Too many years without a balanced budget, too many long-term obligations. Pay - often good here, especially federal. But I work at a state college, which is at the low end of the state pay scale, even though we're in a major urban center.

So yes - I have pursued federal architectural jobs frequently, but never landed one yet.

I hope we're not TOO crazy. But I think we probably are at least a little!

Congrats, Val. Good luck on the move and the new position

Hey, what's everybody been up to? Attalus has been sick and I had to nurse him.

Oh, thanks, he is much better. I heard him singing in the bedroom this morning. I hope it was my tender ministrations. *giggle*

Yeah - it's been a bit slow lately. But sometimes posting slows when several folks are away on vacation. And my family is in the midst of a big move!

Yeah, I have been using my free weekends and good weather to get some matters cleaned up and repaired or recycled that have been dragging for ages so I haven't been much online. So much still to do, sigh. Where does all that stuff keep coming from?

How's the move going, Val?

So we broke our "Most Users Online" record earlier this month??? Is that a big deal to anyone?

I think it used to be like 500-something and now it's 2800-something! Did something happen? Or was there just an influx of bots?

That’s an astute observation.

We did have a little trouble with bots. Eärniel took care of them upon her return; the bots have not (yet) returned.

But I do suspect there really are 20-30 live ’Mooters hanging around - or lurking - most of the time.

Hola. I just travelled for 27 hours in one day. I'm going to rejoin when I've revived somewhat.

I did that once. I used the time to read the entire LotR trilogy, including the appendices, "in one day." Highly recommend

Since I had to work the next day, I decided to try and sleep.
I'm still suffering from jetlag, but I'm alive again so that's good.

Anyone care for a cup of Japanese green tea?

Admittingly, much to my own surprise but I don't mind the peace and quiet from that corner.

I didn't know they'd break our visiting record. I see it falls a few days after I re-spamproofed our entrance. We must have had a record number of spammers beating futily at our gate with not a peep making it through.

It's nice to go to the other end of the world, it's just the very long time it takes to get back that's the drag, right?

Tea sounds good. Did you have a good time away?

I love tea. But I like the black kind. I get kinda inadequate around those more knowledgeable and sophisticated than I.

The only thing I know about tea is whether I like the taste or not.

Yes, my holiday was fantastic! My friends hadn't changed one bit and I managed to make new acquaintances. Even scrounged up a new pen pal: a 78 year old lady.

I love tea, but I just drink the stuff, not study it. To be honest I'm not sure I even know the difference between green teas and black teas and stuff. And it's only the last three years or so that I even tried anything different apart from the ordinary breakfast tea. I don't feel like I need to know much about it to enjoy it.

Heh, I went to a food shop in Dallas where they had big laquered urns of very expensive teas. My favorite was "Iron Goddess of Mercy" and it cost like 50 bucks a pound. I wouldn't dare drink it.
